Baby Polar ReviewThe baby polar bear's mother's heart was filled with love. He pretended that when he was nestled all warm and cozy under her body that he was in a cave. The cave was made of "her thick fur and warm body." It was a nice, safe, cozy place to be and he could even "hear the beating of his mother's heart." The clouds began to gather in the sky and heavy snowflakes began to fall. He pawed at his mother and asked if he could go out and play in the storm, but she warned him that it might be a big one and obviously wanted him to stay close by.
He began to frolic in the snow with his face upturned toward the flakes and stuck out his tongue to catch them. Baby Polar even flopped down on his back and "swish, swish" made some snow wings. "Look at the snow Goose I made," he told his mother. She smiled at his antics, but warned him about the storm. He was having so much fun he didn't listen and soon was out of her sight. The sky was getting darker and "the wind was blowing so strong that it hurt his face." He longed for his mother and the comfort of her body as he cried out for Mama. He began to cry as the snow swirled around him. Was he going to be lost forever in the storm?
This is a delightful story about a polar bear that your little one will want you to read time and time again. Young children often want to go off exploring their worlds on their own, but need assurance that they will be protected. Baby Polar bear was able to explore, but even though he was afraid, he knew somehow that his Mama would protect him. I especially like the swirling frosty collage that brought a lot to the story. The smiling face of Mama Polar bear never wavered during the story, assuring the cub that he would be protected.
